glitterfish

sitting on our lanai, looking out at diamond head, listening to the sounds of the waves and gleeful body surfers. my fingers are “pruned” and its actually a little hard to type! we just got out of the ocean where the last 2 hours or so were spent floating a little out from shore, away from most of the swimmers and kids. there were a few surfers and an outrigger canoe waiting for its paddlers. at one point there were fish jumping all around me! floating in the water felt heavenly after the flight.
flying to hawaii at noon on a sunday in june puts you right smack in the middle of prime honeymoon season. there were numerous obviously recently married couples on the flight. one woman britta nick named “bridezilla” for her hair do. at first i thought she might be a country western singer, the nest on top of her head was really impressive, but when i got closer i saw the evidence of a recent wedding: french manicure- hands and feet, fake lashes, sparkling ring and a littel bit of a hung over look.
coach is just as crowded as you might imagine. i dubbed our flight “glitterfish” -beacause that’s what ruby calls sardines. the flight was full and the plane was smaller than i am used to for a hawaiin flight. we packed for carry on only and i let the check in person intimidate me into checking a bag, but there was plenty of room and my overstuffed pack fit neatly under the seat. so for the remainder of the trip i’ll just take my chances with keeping it with me, at least until we get to fuzhou. lost luggage would be quite inconvienient.

after a lovely sleep listening to the sound of the pacific slapping the shore, i woke up before sunrise to see the full moon ou the lanai. had some coffee and we are just getting ready to head out to the airport.
today will be a long day of traveling. just how long, i didn’t know until aunty b was reading me the itenerary. honolulu to tokyo- 8 hours. time in tokyo 5 hours. tokyo to guangzhou 6 hours. land in gz at 1030 pm and have an 845 am flight to xiamen! upgrading to first class or business class is seriously tempting.
