the countdown begins
only 5 more days until we leave for china. our flight takes off for honolulu on sunday at about noon. we arrive in waikiki at 3pm. we'll catch a cab to the sheraton, throw our bags in the room and hopefully head off to the ocean for a quick swim, and some beach time. who knows what will catch our fancy- drinks by the pool? walking in the sand? reading while listening to the waves? the next morning our flight for tokyo leaves at 11 am, then onto guangzhou for a night in a chinese 3 star hotel- not sure what that will be like, but i am hoping for western toilets.
after a night in guangzhou we get up really early- even for me, to take the shuttle to the airport for our flight to xiamen. xiamen (pronounced shamen) is supposed to be very beautiful-a garden spot according to the guide books, just across the sea from taiwan. we have three days there to explore. one of which will be spent with a guide to go find all of hazels "places". after that it is onto fuzhou and HAZEL!
today i started the list of last minute preparations-
visa's and passports? check.
peptobismal? check.
diaper cream? check.
formula? check.
oh my god am i really ready to return to the land of diapers, wipers and bottles???
the laundry basket where i have been casually tossing all items for china is looking pretty full. am i dreaming to think that it will all fit neatly and under 44 pounds in my carry-on bag? the advantage to traveling in the heat and humidity is that you don't really have to worry much about clothing. synthetic fabrics that will absorb sweat are top priority.oh and no white as i learned last trip to china. i am far from a "glamor do", actually i am definately a "glamor don't" most of the time , so i am counting on auntyb to keep me looking up to date with those famous nelson accessories.
the list for the remainder of the week is pretty tame- check seat guru for a good seat,(especially since we are braving caoch this time.) find a good disposable trashy novel to keep my mind busy, and hit the computer store and camera store for a few last minute gadgets. make sure we have a stash of good coffee to take with us.
here we go- adventure girls in china part 2.
