i love my

i've already confessed that i am "bubble girl". i like some technology but i'd have been happy living in mayberry in most ways. so now i have a couple of confessions.

i love my clothesline. when i bought my little rancher-oo , it had clotheslines both outside and inside. when the kids got the fort, i had to relocate the outside line. somehow the process of hanging our clothes is medetative and sweet. plus the smell is wonderful too. crisp cotton sheets off the line are delicious.

i love my pressure cooker. a friend cooked up some rice in one one night when we were over for dinner. i started talking to her about it and was sold. i got one a month or so ago from the hippie kitchen store and it has gotten a lot of use. we eat brown rice and barley pretty frequently, but i have even expanded to some chicken dishes and soups. it should be just the ticket for winter stews and soups.

and finally, i love my new 1950 something singer 401 sewing machine! my old kenmore which was hand-me-down replacing the new home hand-me-down was on in serious need of a tune up or something to make it go again. i've wanted to get a new machine for quite awhile and have looked at the fancy jenome and bernina modern machines. none called to me and i never went farther than the looking. when i had a project i would either make due with the old machine or trek over to kristy's to use her jenome.

all that changed when i suddenly decided that i need a singer featherweight for quilting, one of my neglected pasttimes. in the process of locating a featherweight i met a woman who collects and restores singers. i went to her house intending to by a simple singer 237 so the kids would have something to learn on when they are ready.( strictly zig zag and straight stitch) i sewed on all her machines and fell in love with the 410. it is all metal, easy to maintain. sews like a dream and does fancy stitches! i love it love it love it.

and the featherweight is not far behind, she has a line on one for me. all these 1930's and 1950's things i love are in juxtaposition with my modern loves- my camera and laptop.

I have a sewing machine bought for my mom from grandmother when I was a baby....(guessing 1960)... LOVE IT!!! another throw back from g'mom is the pressure cooker. with such a thick nice bottom, i have been using it only for candy making during the holidays. i really should venture out and try the pressure part of the cooker.
