bubbles

i am the time-warp bubble girl. i always like to remember things as they were. its not uncommon for me to pass a newly constructed house or mall and say ‘isn’t that where that little yellow cottage with the tree house used to be” or “wasn’t there a great little taco truck that used to park here?”

fortunately many of the places i love and things i like to do are not likely to change much. parks, rivers mountains and such. never mind that jackson has become aspen on steroids in the 20 years since i last lived there, the tetons are the same. forget the fact that the oregon coast is full of huge homes where there used to be sand piles and sea grass, the waves still pound the sand with the same magnitude they did when i was a kid. ignore the gray hair and creaky bones, sitting on a log under a canopy of trees for a picnic is just as fun as it ever was.

the other night i snuck off to a movie after work. i walked around westmoreland before it started and enjoyed a few minutes walking in a place i know well . we used to ride our bikes over there as kids to get hot nuts at the drug store. i have been present as it morphed from the street with a shoe repair place, couple of drug stores, movie theater and an 88 cent store into a street of nice restaurants, fancy shoe store , antique mall and movie theater.

the movie theater frozen in time and i enjoyed being able to be in my “used to be “ bubble. the Moroccan style interior with heavy velvet drapes separating the lobby from the seats. rocking chair seats in a room with beautiful arched doors, fancy columns and lights. the single toilet is up stairs, and there is a balcony out side the door so if you have to wait in line , you can still watch the movie.

i settled back to watch ‘mama mia’ and enjoyed the fanciful silliness of it all. the time warp of boy meets girl, boy and girl have a misunderstanding then then boy and girl reunite. if only it were so simple.
