summer

i’ve been able to take the kids to swim lessons nearly every day this summer. (my mom takes them when i work) i also decided to spring for a family pass. open swim is every afternoon right before the lessons .each afternoon i pack up our bag with towels and snacks and we head off to the pool. i’ve taken to calling it the “creston country club”. we have lots of pals who also go there, i get some adult time while the kids are in lessons. it’s a nice pool with some shady spots and comfy loungers. no mojito’s though and the bathroom could use some work .

lessons in portland are offered at every public pool and the levels are: goldfish, penguin, otter, seal and polar bear. ruby spent a year and a half ( six or 7 2 week sessions) in penguin. i thought she’d be a penguin forever. this year something clicked for her and she turned the corner! she is swimming and i do mean swimming. gliding, doing arms and able to touch bottom , bounce and come up for air laughing. she spends much of our family swim time begging me to come to the deep end or going down the water slide. she loves it and it’ great to watch her evolve into a swimmer.

hazel has gone from afraid to get her face wet to blowing a mean motorboat. two sessions of goldfish and now she’s off to penguin.

at creston country club, i’m enjoying the ritual of sitting in the sun, chatting with friends and watching my girls.
