i caved

i wasn't going to do it. i swore i would not give in to society's obsession with silicone, botox, hair dye and pubic hair shaving.

but one day i looked in the mirror and realized that a nursing student might write " this 48 year old overweight female looks older than her stated age". those cruella deville streaks that started out o so small were now racing stripes you could see from afar. my mom grew grey gracefully and is lovely salt and pepper. my dad started the same and is now white haired. now granted they are both 68 but somehow it looked right on them. on me those strips just didn't. i felt old when i saw images of myself. that and one too many "are you their grandmother" comments made me seriously consider why i was so opposed to coloring my hair. in the end i decided it was a silly principal to stand behind and i took the plunge.

so 4 months ago i colored my hair, i got a weave so i still have some grey just not hiway white lines. i liked it. my mom hates it. but you know what, i like it. it makes me feel younger. no one has asked if i am a grandmother in months. and on those days that i get no sleep and look haggard and old, at least my hair looks good!

don't worry i have no plans for pubic waxing, botox of silicone anytime soon.
