evening sky
one of my survival tools as a single mom is routine. i have always been pretty strict about bedtime for a couple of reasons. first, it seems that no matter what time i put the girls to bed, they wake up at 630 or 7 at the latest. second, when they are asleep is the only time i get to myself in the day and i need it to recharge my batteries.
last night i made an exception and took the girls out to listen to a bluegrass band. the gtm string band was playing at tabor space celebrating the release of a cd. it was really fun. the girls about the only kids there, and they were really well behaved. i neglected to bring paper and coloring stuff, which is unlike me, but they managed to stay entertained without it. i think hazel particularly loved the music. she was playing air piano during most of the songs. ruby was making shadow animals as she was in the perfect spot with a light shining behind her.
the drive home was lovely- there was a gorgeous sky and a crescent moon hanging over the hills. i'd say it was the perfect evening.

I'm right there along with you on the routine and the precious after bedtime time to yourself.....but those special nights like going out late to listen to music with your Mom, doing things that are "out of the ordinary" are the memories that stay with you long after you're grown....a few of those sprinkled in to routine and you have a wonderful childhood to cherish!
